Android Simple Visualizer on Canvas?

Is it possible to create a simple Visualizer on a canvas? I want to re-create something like this:

on a Canvas View. I am not sure how to get the music data and then convert it into a value that I can use to the the height of the rectangles. How can I replicate this in the simplest way possible?
